Originally opened in 1973, Astir has long been a landmark on the waterfront of Patras. Its transformation into Mercure Patras Astir introduces a new chapter for the building, bringing together its established presence in the city and the requirements of contemporary hospitality.
The renovation encompasses guestrooms, public interiors, conference facilities and a rooftop restaurant, bar and swimming pool overlooking the Gulf of Patras. Beyond the visible transformation, the project involved extensive structural reinforcement and the renewal of building services, with upgrades to energy and water management forming an integral part of the reconstruction.

Warm materials, carefully considered lighting and a restrained palette give the interiors a welcoming character. From the shared spaces to the privacy of the guestrooms, the project creates a coherent hospitality environment while renewing the hotel’s relationship with the city and its waterfront.

The design builds on the existing building and its original architectural language, preserving distinctive elements such as the restaurant’s stained glass and the lifts. Integrated into the renewed interiors, these features maintain a sense of continuity with the hotel’s identity while accommodating the needs of contemporary hospitality.
